Oncoming shortage of young actors due to army enlistment

A majority of the  '86 to '87-liner young actors  who  will turn 28~ 29 years olds this year are expected to enlist in the army and this had been  causing an impact to their schedule.  Recently, Choi Jin Hyuk(29) and Kim Jae Joong(29) have announced that they are enlisting at the end of the month. Although Kim Hyun Joong already received a draft notice, his agency revealed that he might make an acting comeback first.  Other actors who are facing imminent enlistment include Park Yoo Chun(29), Yoo Ah In (29), Ji Chang Wook (28), Lee Min Ho (28), Jang Geuk Suk (28) and, Kim Soo Hyun (27). Once these guys leave for the army, the entertainment industry will soon be experiencing a shortfall of young actors in their 20s. They are perpetually making effort to find projects if possible before tackling a 2-year absence in the industry.

Choi Jin Hyuk finished 'Pride and Prejudice' this January and he has held domestic and overseas fan meetings. Kim Jae Joong has also concluded  'Spy' 6 days ago. Park Yoo Chun and Kim Soo Hyun who have upcoming dramas, 'The Girl Who Sees Smell' this April and 'Producer' in May, respectively,  are reportedly going to make decisions after wrapping up their dramas . There  have been talks about Kim Soo Hyun filming a movie before serving.  Shortly after leaving '1 Nights, 2 Days', Lee Seung Gi made headlines after declaring his enlistment plants and was speculated to serve after his movie, 'Love Forecast'  but nothing has been determined. He will also release an album this year.  Ji Chang Wook who successfully completed 'Healer' and Lee Min Ho who released his movie 'Gangnam 1970' are both  in the process of choosing their next work before their enlistment. After being caught in a tax evasion scandal, Jang Geun Suk launched his Japanese concert tour and is still deciding what kind of projects he'll take on next.

However, if one leaves, another one returns. Song Joong Ki (30) will be discharged this May and Yoo Seung Ho (21) returned last December and has already started filming his post army movie, 'Joseon Magician'.

As always, the absence of young actresses is totally glossed over...

I don't think it's a 'shortfall of young actors in their 20s'. It's more like a 'shortfall of (over)hyped mediocre actors in their 20s' - which could be a good thing in my book. Imo only one or two in the list are great actors so I'll not be sad when they leave. K-industry have a lot more young actors with good acting skills around so it's not even an SOS situation, and they can always look for rookies who are in good in acting if they want to.

"9. [+129, -8] With all these actors leaving, I plead writers to create more heroines"

this. more great heroines centric dramas, juseyo! (but it should've been done way before, tho)

More work for Ji sung. He can play young. You hear this advertisers and drama producers Ji Sung has already been to the army. He is available for CF. XD

The only heroines that writers seem to care about are the 30+ ones. And we all know that once this lot sets off, more blank mediocre actors will come to take their place. It's seriously frustrating.

Right? Who would have thought that this man is already 38 years old this year.

Those 1986 liner actors and idols should have enlisted last year.. so that they'll be back the year those 1987-1989 actors are still enlisted.. that way, they'll have more drama and movie offers.

Yeah, I'm always rme when I heard about a hero-centric drama like the upcoming Masked Prosecutor. I'm also very frustrated when I see that the most celebrated scriptwriter, Kim Eun Sook, sucks at writing a decent female lead.

People forget that there are actors such as Park Seo Joon or Kim Yong Kwang, also 'Unkind Women' has also proven that a drama centred around women can also be successful

He just declaring his plan . Not that he will going that time. Thts why he said he's not going to make any statement abt enlistment anymore bcz there's nothing that was confirmed yet. Got it huh

yeah to me Lee Min Ho is no great loss to dramaland lol but don't tell that to his fans or they'll rip you up.

and while there are quite a few younger actors who got the spotlight like post-88ers, young actresses are barely promoted. I want to see girls like Jung So Min, Kang Sora, Han Groo, Lee Yoo Bi etc getting roles, not your idols and some terrible sponsored actresses.
