Song Hye Kyo offered lead role in 'Descended from the Sun'

Sports Kyunghyang via Naver: [Exclusive] Is Song Hye Kyo going to be Writer  Kim Eun Sook's next muse. Strong candidate for female lead in 'Descended from the Sun'

1. [+2397, -198] Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki don't match at all...

2. [+1669, -562] If it's a role about tax evasion, then she's perfectly qualified

3. [+1516, -495] Will this be about tax evasion? Joong Ki-ya, don't do it

4. [+1325, -340] Song Hye Kyo always gets into scandals with her male leads. Don't you drag Song Joong Ki too~~~

5. [+1212, -407] Tax evasion Song Hye Kyo-sshi... Just  continue promoting abroad...

6. [+390, -76] These two don't match at all. It'll be like an aunt and a nephew

7. [+349, -89] Are you insane, Kim Eun Sook ㅋㅋYeah, just watch this be ruined

8. [+330, -83] Song Hye Kyo needs to reflect ~~ Or else, this drama will get ruined

9. [+274, -63] Don't we have any actresses in their 20s.......Castings have been terrible recently. The female lead is always older

10. [+218, -40] Way too old to pair her up with Song Joong Ki ㅠㅠPlease reconsider your casting decision

Older actresses isn't the problem, it's younger actresses who can't act. That said I'm not thrilled about Song Hye Kyo/Song Joong Ki pairing, they are gorgeous but I don't know if they'll match in terms of acting.

That's a simplistic view of things.

Reasons why the only actresses getting roles are in theirs 30s:

1. Idol casting - idol dabbles in acting and either sucks at it or decides to stop acting. Either way, one less opportunity for a bona fide actress to break through. Even if an idol is any good, she'll have frittered away her most productive learning years singing and dancing and therefore there'll always be a ceiling for her skills.

2. Female viewership - any given drama has 50 bazillion male characters who serve as eye candy and get 'nice guy' roles. This is to please the viewership. How many meaty and attractive female characters are there in most dramas? 1. The female lead. And most of those characters suck too. So how exactly are rookie actresses supposed to make an impression if they're always playing bitches or lobotomized little girls?

3. Noona-dongsaeng romances - these are written for shock value. But just think about the end result - more and more young dudes get shots at stardom while their female counterparts are left in the dust because no one wants to see young and pretty women get the most attractive young and old guys on TV. Why is that? Becuase they could just look out their window and see that happening all around them.

Also, why do people forget that a lot of these so called top actresses couldn't act their way out of a paper bag if needed?

I actually find this a problem, why? Because IMO there is a lack of younger fenale actresses to carry on what the seniors have mostly made of the K-TV and Film industry. Simply because writers keep relying on already acomplished actresses (which usually comes with an older age demographic) over actually in rookie actresses.

MTE! When older actresses will retire, to who those roles will go? I'm really depressed when I see most of the 20-something actresses who get lead roles these days are bad at acting. I have a hard time to picture the kdrama's landscape ten years from now. I wish we could discover a lot more of young talents like it was during the early 00's.

SHK is gorgeous but somehow I think she is too boring on screen. IDK if it's me or it's just the drama's fault but I had a hard time to watch all her dramas w/o falling asleep.

Totally agree with you..Most Korean dramas and Movies nowadays are male centered as compared before (from what i obsevered) that's why actors in their 20's shines more while the actresses in 20's can't show their full potential or improve because they always given crappy written characters thus as you said writers relies on those more established actresses in their 30's.

That's also my reason why i never become her fan though i like her a bit..Personally i think she can't connect to her viewers emotionally..

There are younger actresses who can act, they're just not given enough chances. Kim Jiwon, Kang Sora, Han Groo etc. They all fit better with Song Joongki.

Second that, she's so gorgeous and yet there is nothing transcendant on her acting nor screen presence. She's like a shadow, you watched her but you don't remember what was her characters again...

I even dropped "that winter that blows in winter" she looked gorgeous but I fell asleep watching that drama, she's like Han Ji Min to me, both bore me to death

The same. I could only stomach HJM in Rooftop Prince but only because the plot was funny and interesting and the whole very dynamic.

Gorgeous pairing... from what I learn.. Kim Eun Sook already has her leads in her brain when she started writing DotS.. and SHK is good for international selling wise. China loves her and DotS will play in Korea and China at the same time..
