Korean remakes of Taiwanese dramas + Bolin Chen advances into Korea

Osen - Naver: From 'Witch's Romance', 'Fated to Love You' to 'The Time I've Loved You'... Taiwanese dramas are popular

1. [+344, -14] 'Fated to Love You' was jjang. It's me, Geonie. pwahahaha

2. [+322, -17] I heard that Taiwanese dramas are 100% finish with filming before they're aired... And that's probably why they're high quality. The episodes are longer in duration too. Our dramas that typically favour 16 episodes always get criticisms for its live shoot systemㅠㅠ Their dramas are more realistic because you rarely find the usual poor female lead who's always dressed to the nines.  ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

3. [+314, -24] 'Witch's Romance' was really fun..

4. [+201, -10] 'Fated to Love You' and 'Witch's Romance' were fun~ Can't wait for Ha Ji Won's TTILY

5. [+19, -3] I miss 'Fated to Love You' ㅜㅜGeon and Mi Young

Herald Corp - Naver: Taiwanese top star looks into Korean advancement, signs with Ha Ji Won's agency

1. [+4,430, -114] I have no idea who he is but he's so handsome

2. [+1,933, -119] Such good news ㅜㅜLooking forward to Li Da Ren!!!

3. [+1,704, -53] Isn't he the male lead in the original drama ? He's so good-looking

4. [+1,203, -55] Wishing you good luck in your activities

5. [+196, -9] Korea has different entertainment management system than China. Is he prepared?? What if he finds it challenging?... On a side note, he's so handsome and also a good actor

6. [+198, -16] Li Da Ren Bolin Chen is love

7. [+175, -13] Daebak! Bolin Chen is my favourite Taiwanese actor.. Became a fan after I watched 'In Time With You^^

this is not true, I watched several Taiwanese Dramas, and Korean dramas are more wellmade. It just hard to find a gem nowadays

I have tried to watch numerous Taiwanese dramas and I think I had only successfully finished watching 5. I think Korean dramas are generally better quality overall in terms of acting, story line and editing.

True. I think my last fav Taiwanese drama was In time with you. I used to love all Joe Chen drama too. But i watch the latest popular taiwanese drama "Someone like you", I can't stand it, it was so makjang. They have twins ended up love the same guy, birth secret, random girl got late fiancee heart transplant so she ended up fall in love with the guy. It was like they put all cliche into one drama. In addition the acting are no better except the male lead which was the sole reason why i even tried that drama.

I think the real problem with tw-dramas is the length, it's very tedious to see through 1.5 hour of drama (just like it impacted Producer's 100-minute episode at first). But overall, I find tw-dramas more childish and too cartooney for my taste (from the few dramas I've seen).

Can they do a remake of Down With Love I love that tdrama sooo much

for the taiwanese dramas i watched, theyre usually light-hearted and cute the first few episodes but quickly spiral into 200% makjang out of nowhere :/ they also have quite a few uncomfortable filming patterns like when they get leads to monologue loudly to themselves

The taiwanese version of fated to love you has around 30 episodes? (If I remember correctly) and it was one of the best taiwanese drama imo.

Hyekyo and joongki's upcoming drama may very well be the first fully-preproduced korean drama. Hope it will a trend soon.

kkeullimin said...

Yes I read that it was going to be a preproduction! I was so happy about that (other than the fact that Song joongki and Onew are in the same drama BLESS)

Generally speaking Korean dramas are more high quality than Taiwanese/Chinese dramas. They are getting a lot better now but they drag out the plots a lot like really repetitious, there are some classic good ones like Huan Zhu Ge Ge, Bu Bu Jing Xi, Autumn Concerto, Fated to Love You etc but I find Korean dramas format more interesting and addicting. Most Taiwanese idol dramas are so childish and makjang, but I do watch them sometimes. My recent favorite Chinese dramas are Lan Ling Wang and My Sunshine.

Hi Kkuljaem, any chance you can translate articles on the weekend drama "Make A Woman Cry/Let The Girl Cry"? Thanks.

Taiwanese dramas used to be the bomb back in the mid 2000s. So many iconic ones. But than it started to go all downhill after their top actors and actresses went to China to film mainland dramas due to more $$$ and better working hours. Now most of the Taiwan dramas are with new actresses and they rely on starting "scandals" among the cast to up the ratings. Unfortunately it has fallen behind Korean and mainland Chinese dramas in terms of quality and acting.

Mainland dramas have been on top of their game. So many of the leads are from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea & etc lol. I'm currently obsessed with Destined to Love you with Joe Chen:)

My favourite taiwanese drama is autumn concerto. It is really goood. I love both version of fated to love you :).
I would love to see autumb concerto korean remake.

There are amazing tdrama just like there are kdrama. But personally, I watch Tdrama when I want to watch something funny and light hearted. Kdrama are generally serious and full of drama.
Recently I have watched Just you with Puff Guo and Aaron Yan, I really liked it.

also, some T-dramas have live shoot system as well. But it s only 1ep/week instead of 2 like in Korea, so it s less hectic

16 episodes are short??i struggled waiting for the last episode of kdramas...what about jdoramas which are only 10 episodes?? I prefer jdoramas then

OMG Joe chen is my fav. Always love her taiwanese dramas. She moved to mainland dramas? Aren't most mainland drama are historical though?

me said...

Aren't most mainland drama are historical dramas? Any recommendation? I never watch any of it

greenmochi said...

Yes Tw dramas used to be gems.
I remember Promce Turns Into a Frog, ISWAK, They Kisa Again, 100% Senorita (my fave ever),

loverangel1 said...

Yup Joe Chen has moved on to mainland Chinese dramas. The one in the red dress is her (albeit heavily photoshopped). I think it's her latest mainland drama.

loverangel1 said...

Yes their historical dramas have been on point lately :) However I would prefer if they stick to Chinese speaking actresses as their leads (aka no Koreans) Even though there's dubbing I hate it when the mouth movements don't match the words cause the person is not a native speaker. Makes it uncomfortable to watch.

loverangel1 said...

There's a healthy mix of both modern and historical/period dramas. But latter is more well known because there are some really iconic ones. Haha I'm not a avid mainland drama watcher but I can probably recommend a few popular ones. Which style do you prefer? Modern or historical?

me said...

Modern please. But period drama is ok if it's really good. Do they always use dubbing? It's kinda unpleasant :(

me said...

OMG, she's unrecognizable. Why they do this? T-T. Is there any eng sub available? The trailer is a bit confusing and did they use dubbing for the sound? It's kinda unpleasant.

Aaa8897 said...

i love taiwanese dramas more than korean hahahha
more depth, good acting, osts.

loverangel1 said...

Hmm there hasn't been many good modern ones lately. One that is pretty popular is Boss and Me based off a hit novel

For historical there has been quite a few standouts (in terms of ratings) in recent years.
1) scarlet heart
2) sound of the desert
3) great incisive teacher
4) prince of lan ling

You can try googling for 'top mainland dramas' to get more choices.

loverangel1 said...

I have no idea where to get eng subs. Maybe try viki or YouTube?

Haeyoung said...

Not the first (there was Road No. 1 and some others I don't remember) but it's definitely rare. Doubt it will be a trend though. Kdramas always rely on feedback but who knows?

Haeyoung said...

Omg, Autumn's Concerto Korean remake would be the bomb!! I loooove that drama (the only T-drama I've seen that doesn't exaggerate everything). Koreans and their Melos are great so a remake of AC is right up their alley. They just have to find a kid as fab as the one in the original.

Dani said...

There was Birdie Buddy (UEE, abt golf) but not one broadcasting station pick it up until a year later or more. So that's the risk of pre-produced dramas in SK. Honestly, the station and the production should stop caring abt what the viewers want and more on what they want to present.

yeoshinn said...

Nowadays TW dramas are boring though. It's always cheesy/boring/draggy. The recent one I completed was The Way We Are (16個夏天) but that was melo as fuck and really different from the normal taiwanese dramas. I tried watching Murphy's Law of Love and dropped it at like ep5 cause of bad acting+predictable storyline tbh.

Haeyoung said...

Exactly. And obviously quality suffers because of it too. Not denying feedback is imp but sometimes a drama loses itself because it tries so hard not to lose its more vocal viewers. Huge example is Mirae's Choice - they didn't even bother showing a /Choice/ because they were worried about what Yonghwa fan girls would say online. If that drama was preproduced, I'm sure the result would have been so much better.

Coco said...

Agreed, some of them actually have a good history, but then they ruined with the acting, slow plot, the characters etc. Just all become boring you.

luna said...

Yup..autumn concerto is really good and i love the child actor :)

luna said...

Yuupp..the kid actor is great!! I love him.

panshel said...

I think all countries' dramas drag (Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Hong Kong are all I've seen), but Taiwanese dramas drag the most. Something that could happen in one episode gets stretched out for three episodes. Not to mention, the episodes are so long.

panshel said...

I can totally see Korea remaking Autumn's Concerto.

Eon099 said...

Taiwan-drama storyline generally more fitting for Korea than Japanese one (for public TV broadcast). Thus it has higher chance to be liked by audience

I think they should leave Japanese remake to TV cable if the plot is too realistic/differ from your usual chaebol makjang romance drama (Lol)

Prrttt said...

I have watched few Taiwanese dramas like Fated to Love You, Romantic Princess, Meteor Garden (LOL!), At The Dolphin Bay, and It Started With a Kiss. They were interesting but some of them are very childish and a bit bizarre. I think Korean dramas are much better in regards of acting and plot.
